Case in ProgressCameron's open heart surgeryIt is the day that Camerons family has been anticipating and dreading at the same time. Here is their first communication with me. We will keep you posted as to her progress. Here's our first e-mail from her parents.
Hi Julie! Cameron's surgery went well !! Whew! Glad thats over with! Now the hard work begins for Cameron. Cameron went in for surgery at 2:40 pm yesterday afternoon. The anesthesiologist told us it would be about 4 to 5 hours We got ready for a long afternoon. At 5:10 the nurse came in and told us they were taking Cameron off the heart-lung machine and would be bringing her down to ICU in about 15-30 minutes. Everything went great!! We saw Cameron as they were bringing her into ICU. She looked really good (considering she had so many tubes sticking out of her). She woke up from the anesthesia during the night. The nurse said she was a "wild thing"!! They also had to give her some blood. The nurse told me "she has the most beautiful blue eyes!" But I already knew that. When saw her this morning the nurse told us they would be trying to remove the respirator, (aka "extubate" tubes from her) this afternoon. Other than that we feeling pretty good because Cameron's doing great, we're not sure when we'll be coming home yet. This will probably be my only e-mail I send out down here. It's a little more difficult than I thought it would be. Also, we're staying at the Ronald McDonald House. What a wonderful place!! Thank you everyone for your prayers. They were/are very much appreciated!! For those of you with kids... please give them a big hug and kiss tonight when you tuck them into bed and thank God for their good health. It truly is a blessing. Thanks to all of you!! Tony, Becky & Cameron
