Get A Grip!

Though babies are born with a grasping reflex (briefly holding objects placed in their hands), yours won't actually reach out and grab things until he's 3 to 4 months old. That's when he'll be able to focus on items up to 12 inches away, even when they're moving. And his natural curiosity will start to kick in, so he'll be eager to investigate what he sees. You can help your baby develop this skill by dangling a variety of rattles and other small items 6 to 12 inches in front of him when he's playful and alert. He'll be able to examine these treats, then reach out and wrap his fingers around them if he's interested.
